Grammy Winner James Ehnes in Candid Interview on Art & Fine Living with Jona

/*Posted by jona rapoport*/

Canadian violinist James Ehnes was the honoured guest on radio show Art & Fine Living with Jona, produced and hosted by Jona Rapoport on Radio Shalom, a mere 24 hours after receiving the coveted Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist Performance with Orchestra. The winning album of violin concertos by Walton, Korngold and Barber, was recorded with Bramwell Tovey and the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

During the interview, Ehnes professed his joy and surprise at having won the coveted prize for the first recording executed with Maestro Tovey. He spoke candidly about many aspects of his life and career in music, recounting his childhood interest in the violin and the incident the night before his first professional appearance, at sixteen, with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra . He talked about his relationship with his current manager, whose former client was the legendary pianist Glenn Gould, and elaborated on the Walton violin concerto. The first movement of the Walton concerto and the Barber concerto were featured on the show as well. The entire interview can be accessed online on the host’s page of archived programs.

Support for an Israeli based culture project

/*Posted by eitanc*/

Notes main page

Hello,

My name is Eitan Caspi, from Israel.

I was once an active member of the “Notes” project, which is an Israeli project handing a simple yet sophisticated hosting platform to unique Hebrew writers and artists (not necessarily famous ones, although some are).

The project is open to anyone writing in Hebrew, even if they don’t leave in Israel.
The project web site: http://www.notes.co.il .

The project is base on volunteers only, including the hosting company.

Recently, due to the project’s huge success (300,000 unique visitors every month), it came to a point that it needs real money to continue.
You can find the project’s managers call for help here: http://www.notes.co.il/extra/37343.asp (Hebrew).

So, if you know of any person or organization that is able and willing to support a project like “Notes”, please contact me at eitanc {at} yahoo {dot} com.

Thanks,

Eitan Caspi

Sarit Shapira is an associate curator at Magasin 3. This is her first own exhibition for the institution and a Swedish audience. Sarit Shapira lives in Tel Aviv and bases her activities on her region of operation, the Middle East. At Magasin 3 she presents six oeuvres that are linked to the region. These artists employ different approaches, for instance using national symbols such as the camel and the olive tree, making models of mythically charged buildings, or letting the landscape be a stage for enacting scenes from art history.
