Avi Vinocur
It seems you are new to The Jewish Culture Log of Arts, so we would like to recommend that you subscribe to our RSS feed to keep yourself up-to-date of the best art from the Jewish Community. Thank you for your visit!

At 22 years old, Avi Vinocur has carved out an impressive list of credentials for one so young: he opened for the Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1965, he talked John Lennon into the cover art for the Sgt. Pepper album, he was taught how to hit a ball by Bobby Thomson (who won the pennant for the New York Giants in 1951 with the single swing of a bat), he was awarded the MBE by Queen Elizabeth at the age of 6, and he set Dylan on the right track in 1963 when he said, For Petes sake, Robert–the times, they’re a-changing, man!”
(Actually, he did meet Bobby Thomson once.)
Avi’s folk music draws comparisons to a young Bob Dylan or Paul Simon: maintaining elegant melodies and poetic lyrics with messages ranging from love to politics. His live performances have earned him regular positions in coffeehouses in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury and Mission districts and a strong following of young and old. His poetry has been published in the La Vista newspaper and received acclaim and approval from poets, authors and survivors of Hurricane Katrina at benefit poetry reading in New Orleans. His biting song entitled “How is your coffee, Mr. President?†received attention and overwhelming applause, even in red states like Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee, for its comical critique of President Bush.
Avi has toured the United States with Sebastian Clark (LA), and Jason Reischel (NY) and has performed in the United Kingdom, France and South Korea. Doing so has earned a mailing list of 500+ devout fans.
His debut record “Forty Years Too Late” was released on February 9th, 2004 and his sophomore EP “New York” was released on May 30th, 2006 . A live EP of a KXLU Los Angeles performance is expected to be released in Fall 2006 on Freetime Los Angeles as fLA 7012a- EP.
