As a literature professor I have dedicated myself to teaching and investigating, without abandoning the captivating activity of writing. I am author of the book of poems “Persistent Vibrations†and the historic novel “The Passion of a Visionary- Theodor Herzlâ€. Currently, I am working on a poem book about Auschwitz.
Since the beginning of my career, I have been able to study in depth the work of Argentina-born Jewish writer, a task which was materialized in the edition of “A Bibliography of Alberto Gerchunoffâ€.
From this decisive step on, I went on building bridges between my profession and Jewish issues, aiming to sustain the projection of our identity in literature. This I did together with Lic. Ana Weinstein, and it resulted in the two volume book “Jewish-Argentine writers. A bibliography 1900-1987â€.
This very interesting experience allowed me to discover a great number of existing creators in all artistic disciplines, and the need to systematize information so they can be properly valued. For this reason, together with Ana Weinstein and Roberto Nasatsky, we studied the different facets of musical activity. With the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, we released “Jewish-Argentine Musical Trajectoriesâ€, a work that allows appreciating the significant contribution of composers, performers and critics.
Since plastic arts constitute another relevant side of Latin American Jewish Creativity, I created, with Prof. Stephen Sadow of Northeastern University of Boston, a website (www.jewishlatinart.neu.edu) which centralizes the work of over one hundred artists.
Thus, I have investigated three prolific and varied fields: Literature, Music and Plastic Arts. In every case, we kept in mind the artists’ origin rather than the theme of their play. The objective has been to gather a broad view of our people’s artistic vein, in order to favor their study and spreading.
The Jewish Culture Log will help favor links, giving an incentive to creation and divulgation and, at the same time, promoting reciprocal interest.
